HEIP hosts the “Become a Delegate” forum – by Open Diplomacy

HEIP hosts the Become a Delegate Forum

It is for the third consecutive year that HEIP has hosted the Forum Devenir Délégué on its premises on the weekend of January 24 to 26 , which allows the Open Diplomacy Institute to examine the hundreds of volunteer candidates to represent France at the Y7. and at Y20. As part of its partnership, HEIP supports the activity of the Open Diplomacy Institute, which promotes the participation of citizens in international life.

The Open Diplomacy Institute is a transpartisan think tank whose objective is to enable French citizens to understand and participate in international life. It was founded in 2010 by Thomas Friang. During the French presidency of the G20 and the G8, he created a mechanism for the participation of young people in these international forums, the Y20 and the Y8. In 2019, the Institute led the Y7, a similar working group within the G7.

BUT WHAT IS BECOMING A DELEGATE?

Becoming a delegate means participating in the G20 and a G7 for young people.

The presidency of the G20 and the presidency of the G7 organize an official youth consultation each year: these are the Y20 and the Y7.

This innovative process was initiated in France by the Open Diplomacy Institute in 2011: the first consultation took place that year under the High Patronage of the President of the Republic in Paris. Since then, in partnership with the Ministry of Europe and Foreign Affairs, the Open Diplomacy Institute has recruited, trained and financed the delegates who represent France in these international forums.

In 2020, the Y20 will be held in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia from October 10-18 . The Y7 will be held June 1-5 in Washington, USA . Delegates will be fully supported by the host government once there. The Open Diplomacy Institute will offer a scholarship of €300 to partially cover airfare.
